Liner Notes:
Sometimes things happen in your life that are beyond explanation. Markings in time and place. I have waited a long time to find the right moment, collect the right songs, only to find that there is no right moment and that the songs find you. We went through hundreds of songs, chose some wonderful standards and proudly five new Canadian pieces. Many parts of this CD were blessed with a kind of marvelous serendipity. Fantastic resonances that left me exhausted, giddy, at the wonder of it all. I am so grateful for the incredible talent of the people involved on this CD. My good friends. From whom I have learned so much. You helped me relax, unlace, explore. I cherish your art, your wit, your wisdom, your humour... and your hearts. Thank you. Leslie for letting me into your trunk, Jonathan for rewriting for me, Zachary for the beautiful ballad out of summer air and David at the last minute... you're gorgeous. Thank you all, so much. I am deeply indebted to Jeffrey Huard whose guidance, patience and trust were immeasurable. And for the enduring love and support of my special pianists Derek and Ashley, who take care of my every breath. This CD is for Bruce, Shirley, Tom, Herbie. But track 4 is for Steve. Told you I'd bring that banjo back to life. |
